I’ve been on a bit of a wrap kick lately and my current obsession is the Caesar Wrap, either with turkey or chicken. The main goal of a good Turkey Caesar Wrap is to basically see how much filling you can stuff in the wrap. A good Caesar Wrap is MAXXED OUT on filling.
So, when you read the recipe for this wrap, just know that my goal was to jam-pack as much filling as possible in the wrap. It’s possible that if you are a beginner wrap maker you won’t be able to fit all this in one wrap and might have some spill over. That’s okay!
But, when you get it right, this wrap is a thing of beauty and big enough to be split between two people.
Let’s dive in and wrap it up!
What tortillas work best for these wraps?
There is really only one option for tortillas for these wraps: Flour tortillas. And big ones. Basically get the largest flour tortillas you can find, generally labeled for burritos or even Extra Large options.
Also, because we will be stuffing these wraps to the max, it’s helpful if the tortillas are slightly warmed and more flexible before you try to fill them. You can either warm them on a griddle for a few seconds per side or you can microwave them for 15 seconds to loosen them up.
You do not want them crispy! Just warmed and flexible.
Filling options for these Caesar Wraps
Here are the basic fillings that I think are pretty essential to a good Caesar wrap.
- Romaine lettuce. Crunchy Romaine lettuce is actually the star of a good Caesar wrap.
- Deli turkey. I like to use deli turkey for these wraps but chicken would work fine as well.
- Crunchy Croutons. I like to make my own croutons (more on that below), but any crouton will work.
- Parmesan cheese. Be generous with the Parmesan.
- Caesar dressing. I like a creamy Caesar dressing, but use your favorite.
Okay. Let’s talk croutons. This is the part of the wrap that I like to make from scratch, but you can buy pre-made croutons.
I cube up a piece of good bread and toss it in a skillet with a few tablespoons of olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder or granulated garlic until they are crispy. Once these have cooled, they are SO good in the wrap.
What dressing is best for these wraps
Any Caesar dressing can be used for this wrap or you can make your own (I’ve made a quick Caesar dressing for this salad which would work great or you could try an authentic caesar dressing as well.
Personally, I like a creamy caesar dressing and just use a good store-bought version for my wraps.
Chopping and Filling these Wraps
When you pile up the ingredients on a cutting board for these wraps, it’ll look like a ridiculous amount of filling. That’s okay. Pile it up, add a drizzle of dressing, and start chopping.
The dressing helps really hold the ingredients together so make sure you add some as you chop all the ingredients.
Take your time chopping the ingredients for the filling. The smaller the pieces the more you can fit in your Caesar wrap!
To Griddle or Not To Griddle
Sometimes I will recommend adding the wrap to a griddle so the tortilla gets crispy on the outside, but I wouldn’t do that for these turkey Caesar wraps. That extra heat will kill the texture of the lettuce.
Instead, leave the wrap soft and the croutons on the inside of the wrap will add plenty of crunchy texture.
How to roll these Caesar Wraps
Okay, now for the magic. Add all the filling to a LARGE flour tortilla that is slightly warmed.
Fold in the edges and use the edges to start really pressing on the filling. You want to compact the filling as much as possible.
Once the edges are folded over, then fold over the end. The filling will be spilling out and that’s okay.
Use your hands to pull back on the filling, stuffing it back in the tortilla. It will compress a bunch so keep pulling and pressing on it as you roll the tortilla up. Eventually you should be able to fold it over into a wrap.
Cut it in half and serve it up!
Substitutions
There are some good substitutions you could do for this wrap.
Obviously instead of turkey you could use deli chicken or leftover roasted chicken, diced small.
If you aren’t a fan of Caesar dressing, try the wrap with ranch dressing, which is also good.
Leftovers
These wraps are best fresh, but if you have a leftover half, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and it’ll keep in the fridge for a day or two.
I think half of this turkey Caesar wrap is plenty for lunch so I usually split a turkey Caesar wrap with my wife. Serve with chips or crispy tater tots and it’s a GREAT lunch.
