These are undoubtedly the dog days of summer for a number of reasons.
First and foremost, it’s blazing hot. Denver isn’t even that hot and it’s still hot. I prefer the crisp mountain air to 100 degree heat any day.
Secondly though, I feel like this summer has literally been centered around the health of my dog, Porter. The little guy just can’t get a break! Besides getting really sick a month or so ago, he has had a lingering skin rash that comes and goes every few months.
Sometimes the rash goes away on its own, but this current iteration of it is definitely not going away. It’s here with a vengeance and medication will be needed. Poor guy.

Summer Dinners and Squash Pasta – A beautiful post but also a stunning dinner with squash “noodles” and pesto that, I think, might be the perfect late summer dinner. (@ A Sweet Spoonful)
Heirloom Tomato Galette – Even if you don’t have the most beautiful backyard in the world and even if you don’t grow your own heirloom tomatoes, you can still find perfect ones at the market this time of year. (@ White on Rice Couple)
Food Fighters on Youtube – If you missed Food Fighters on Tuesday (or if you didn’t), you should check out their Youtube channel. Not only are some of the challenges there, but also there’s some exclusive digital videos from each episode. I really like the quick cooking tips that they give. (@ YouTube)
Have a great weekend everyone. If you need me, I’ll be building sand castles!

It’s been so hot but fortunately we took the hit and got AC this year! The last 3 years we’ve had no cooling system and have a super dark aluminum sided (?) home. It was terrible. Now it’s like…”Oh 100 degrees? That’s okay.” We always go up in the foothills on Saturday to get a break if it’s super hot.

Oh man. That sounds brutal. We had no A/C last summer and could barely stand being in our apartment! Hope your cockapoo gets better soon!
Cori
And sorry to hear about the pup. We have a cockapoo and he gets skin rashes often also. His leg is still super red from a few months ago.

We have 2 doodles – and a rash is usually from a food allergy. We have had good luck with Purina Sensitve or Costco Salmon & Sweet Potato. Good luck.
Nick
Thanks for the rec Ed! Vet definitely thinks it’s some sort of allergy.
erin
Aw! Feel better Porter!!!
Nick
Thanks Erin! He’s on the mend already. :)

Nick, have you ever considered taking Porter off all processed food? You might want to take a look at the BARF diet for him. (Biologically Approved Raw Food) .. (Just a thought.. my two girls love it and they are VERY healthy!)
